Description of the roles

Praeses (Chair): The Praeses is responsible for running the association and chairing board meetings. The Praeses looks out for the diverging needs of all (board) members and knows the ins and outs of the association. They write and carry out the board’s policy presented at the Policy&Budget GMA. The position requires a level head, compassion, a vision, and diplomatic skills.

Ab Actis (Secretary): The Ab Actis is responsible for keeping member registry up to date and taking minutes during meetings and GMAs. The Ab Actis manages digital archives and is a general organisational powerhouse. The position requires excellent organisational skills.

Quaestor (Tresurer): The Quaestor is responsible knowing how much, where, and why money is being spent within the association, for they handle all spendings and earnings. The Quaestor creates Symposion’s yearly budget presented at the Policy&Budget GMA. This position requires organizational awareness, economic insight, and a responsible attitude.

Assessor Intern: The Assessor intern is responsible for all internal communication. The Assessor Intern guides the the committee chairs, oversees the general well-being of the committees, and co-ordinates the announcement chats. The position requires interpersonal and organizational skills.

Assessor Extern: The Assessor Extern is responsible for external communication with other associations or organizations. The Assessor Extern creates new connections for the association without ceasing to maintain the important ones. The position requires extensive people skills and a good social compass.

Assessor Education: The Assessor Education is responsible for bridging the gap between Symposion’s members and Leiden’s institute for Philosophy. The Assessor Education organises collaborative events, sets up study support structures, and co-ordinates Symposion’s educational departments. The position requires a sensitivity to educational needs of Symposion members, discipline and communication skills.
